ihsan saad ihsan tahir (1995) Across painting, drawing, sculpture and writing, ihsan produces works that revolve around notions of class, cultural exchange, displacement and masculinity. His work examines how political ideology creates an aesthetic of power through objects, architecture and ornaments and how this aesthetic can be destabilized. He draws on archaeological fragments and architectural expressions that distort or renegotiate the values they traditionally represent.

Copies of granite sculptures made of styrofoam, encourage resistance; fake leaded-glass windows alluding to street culture and transgression; gravestones bearing lottery symbols; plaster masquerading as marble; rugs of skeletons in intimate poses. These are devices that disrupt the dominant narratives of endurance and harmony by introducing transience and dissonance.

He holds a MFA from both The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts & Goldsmiths University of London
